Matchday Referee

Run a den on matchday: check the squad file, reveal the drawn pairings, record three sets, submit.

Stipend · One or two evenings a week during the season · Nairobi — at a partner den

This role works directly with competitors, some of whom are under 18. There is a vetting step before you start — references and a conversation. It is not a formality and we will not skip it.

What you actually do

You are the person in the room when a tie is played. The system draws the pairings and derives the result; you make sure what it records is what happened.

  1. Check the squad file. Read the revision off the console and enter it.

Nothing else unlocks until you do — this is the only moment a stale USB stick can be caught, and after that the evidence is gone.

  1. Check both squads in. Three a side.
  2. Show the pairings. The server drew them two hours ago. You do not choose

them, and neither does anyone else in the room.

  1. Record each set. Score, and whether it went to extra time or penalties.
  2. Submit. Standings and the Swiss table update themselves.

What we need from you

Reliability more than anything else. Six people arrange their evening around a fixture; a referee who does not turn up wastes all six.

You do not need to be good at EA FC. You need to be able to read a scoreline, be fair when somebody disputes one, and say "no" calmly when somebody wants you to bend a rule.

Working with under-18s

Some competitors are minors. This role puts you in a room with them, so there is a vetting step before you start — references and a short conversation. It is not a formality and we will not skip it.

Put your hand up

No account needed. Matchday Referee — tell us a little about you.

We use what you send here to consider your application and get back to you, and for nothing else.
